Parametric Enhancement of a Window-Windcatcher for Enhanced Thermal Comfort and Natural Ventilation

Window-windcatchers, a passive ventilation method, have been shown to improve and enhance thermal comfort. Preliminary characterization of novel window-windcatcher has undertaken in previous work, but no relationship had identified between the actual rate (Qact), wind velocity (VTw) crucial design parameters such as fins angle (ϴ)). In this paper, that quantifies how window-windcatcher’s performance depends on VTw ϴ was determined. Additionally, for first time, optimized by studying effects fins-wall distance (DW−f) through Computational Fluid Dynamics parametric study (ANSYS)|. optimization approach, DW−f corresponding maximum actual-to-required were found be 80° 45 cm, respectively. The increased approximately 13.2% compared with baseline windcatcher (ϴ equal 40° respectively); corresponds an increase 8.6% rate, according ASHRAE standards.
